HOW PROPROYALE GOT STARTED
With nothing but a will to win and a bucket of paint, our founder Murray Clark, transformed a dilapidated cricket pavilion into a thriving commercial building when he was only eighteen. Since then, Proproyale has developed 24+ projects totalling over fifty thousand square metres.
In 2008, we shifted our focus from residential to retail developments after noticing that South Africa’s rural and township communities had very few, if any, nearby stores. With this urgent need in mind, we rolled up our sleeves and set about bringing the brands to the people.
You could say the building is in Murray Clark’s blood with a family history of development spanning over a century. As the son, grandson and great grandson of builders, it was inevitable that he would join the industry.

FROM RURAL RETAIL TO URBAN REGENERATION
Today, we’re expanding our footprint across South Africa’s townships and suburban nodes to create retail experiences that meet the needs of modern life while fostering a genuine sense of community. Sometimes this means blending big-name brands with neighbourhood start-ups.
SOLID FOUNDATIONS
Our ongoing success is due to our risk management methodology, time-tested systems and a genuine desire to provide all South Africans with a great shopping experience. Target investments are evaluated against strict criteria including the presence of national anchor tenants in seventy percent of the lettable area.
By nurturing relationships with key decision makers, we maintain instant access to leading retail brands and strong associations with the best brokers, consultants, contractors and sub-contractors.
REDESIGNING THE RETAIL REVOLUTION
Same-day deliveries, product comparison apps and fitting-room selfies the rules of retail are changing rapidly.
Rather than resist change, we embrace it. By relentlessly researching what people buy, how they buy and when they buy, we’re able to create more than an attractive space - we're able to deliver a truly memorable experience.
From exciting small format pop-up shops to outdoor wellness areas and events spaces, every square foot is taken into consideration to enhance the customer convenience and experience.
